Ontario and held draws

Ontario and held draws under their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), selecting candidates with strong professional experience, language abilities, and employment records for Canadian permanent residency (PR). Both the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) issued invitations in early September, reflecting the provinces' ongoing commitment to attracting skilled immigrants. These selections, along with programs like MPNP and NBPNP, provide key pathways for candidates seeking PR through provincial nomination in Canada.   In Ontario, the French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream issued 96 Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores between 290 and 393. To qualify, candidates must be eligible under the federal Express Entry pool, with work experience, language proficiency, and recognized degrees. visitors could apply for work permits without leaving Canada

Image
Canada has ended the policy allowing visitors to apply for work permits while in the country. This change took effect on August 28, 2024. Previously, visitors could apply for work permits without leaving Canada, a rule in place since August 2020. The policy was set to last until February 2025 but was cut short by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Policy Background The policy aimed to help visitors stranded due to the pandemic. It allowed them to switch to work permits. Those who had worked in the past year but were now visitors could work legally while waiting for a new permit. Reason for Ending the Policy The IRCC cited the need to manage temporary resident numbers and protect the immigration system as reasons for the policy's end. They noted that some people were misusing the policy, misleading foreigners into working without proper permits. Fighting Immigration Fraud The policy's end is part of a larger fight against immigration fraud. ...

Work Permit Options

IRCC introduces open work permit options for some PNP candidates Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has instituted a new temporary policy, allowing some prospective Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for an open work permit (OWP). This public policy will enable eligible newcomers to obtain an OWP if they have a job offer, a valid work permit, or a work permit that expired on or after May 7th. These individuals must also possess a support letter from the province or territory where they reside (confirming their placement in an Expression of Interest pool or other application inventory process after an initial assessment by the province or territory). This new temporary policy is effective as of August 11th, 2024, and will remain in place until December 31st, 2024—though IRCC notes that the policy may “be revoked at any time, without prior notice”. Who is eligible under this new policy? Under this new policy...

Canada's Express Entry Pool

Image
In September 2024, Canada's Express Entry pool saw significant activity following a busy August and historic number of draws in July. Express Entry, a primary pathway to Canadian permanent residency (PR) , saw over 10,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued in five draws. This aligns with Canada's broader immigration objectives, including transitions from temporary resident to PR status. Express Entry and Canada's Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) , such as BCPNP, MPNP, and NBPMP , continue to offer pathways for permanent residency. Recent changes, led by Minister of Immigration Marc Miller, have focused on prioritizing Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and PNP draws, favoring domestic applicants such as temporary residents already on work permits. This helps address challenges like housing affordability while meeting immigration targets. Additionally, Canada has emphasized Francophone immigration outside Quebec, aiming to increase the share of Francophone immigrants from ...
